Our work spans education, culture, enterprise, community housing and inclusive spaces. We take an asset-based approach: recognising the knowledge, talent and potential already present in local communities, then helping people turn those strengths into lasting change.
To empower individuals to transform communities through arts and culture, education and training, social enterprise development and affordable community housing.
Kajans was founded in Birmingham in April 2004 by minority ethnic women who shared a belief that meaningful change begins within communities. What started as a grassroots movement supporting personal development and resilience has grown into an organisation advancing social justice, lifelong learning and sustainable regeneration.
From skills programmes and international cultural experiences to supported housing and community-owned developments, Kajans remains true to its founding principle: when individuals are empowered, whole communities flourish.

Ubuntu
Our vision is rooted in ubuntu: a belief in our shared humanity and in the idea that each of us becomes stronger through our relationships with others. It is a principle lived by our staff, volunteers and partners as we work together for a fairer society.
